Council is tossing up what motions it takes to the Local Government NSW Annual Conference – one of the items being debate is asking Local Government NSW to lobby the state government to encourage “commercial enterprises to express interest in the establishment” of a high-energy low-emissions power station.

The motion follows calls from local National Party members to investigate Boggabri as a potential location for such a power station, due to the nearby coal sources and its potential to create local jobs.

Other motions include abolishing rate pegging, dishing out more health infrastructure funding to regional councils, changing the scheduling of aircraft movements into Sydney Airport to increase the availability of slots for regional air services and changes to the state’s mining community fund.

Council will vote on the motions at Wednesday night’s meeting.
