This year, Moree-based business, Compressed Air, Light & Power, made its debut at AgQuip from August 22-24.
The business services an area from Emerald to Hay, all from its home on the border.
Owner Joff Cannington said the seven-year-old business, which specialises in air compressors, generator and light tower hire, sales and service, runs in two parts – a large hire fleet, renting from Emerald to Hay, and outright sales.
By June next year, the business will have a permanent shopfront in Moree, serving an area from the border down to Murrurundi, out to Baradine and Mungindi.
“We predominantly look after agriculture, with four different types of air compressors,” Mr Cannington said.
“We also have an OHS safety portal.”
The business came about after John Deere bought the cotton bailer out in 2008.
“They had some trials in Moree, and I remember going,” Mr Cannington said.
“The basket picker as opposed to the new bailer picker was a vastly bigger machine and required a lot more air.
“It almost doubled the size of air compressors overnight.”
Mr Cannington says the location of the business in Moree has allowed it to compete with the big market players.
“Competition largely comes from five other players on the market, but generally we don’t really see competition active outside Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne,” he said.
The business also specialises in generators, with John Deere engines, blasting and pool work, but it’s light towers that are proving most popular across the market.
“We’re finding lighting towers are becoming more and more prevalent with harvesting in this day and age,” Mr Cannington said.
“As people get more grain storage and the speed at which harvest is now moving that we’re doing a lot more lighting towers in the last three years than in the years past.”
