Featuring some of the best local produce from all over the region, Nosh Narrabri promises to be a treat for all the senses this weekend.
“It’s going to be massive,” president Darrell Tiemens said. “It’s the biggest budget we’ve ever had, it’s going to be the biggest Nosh ever.”
The food and beverage festival will get underway at 12pm on Saturday, August 26 with the family-friendly Food and Wine Expo in the Nosh market square, held on the banks of Narrabri Creek (behind the Crossing Theatre).
More than 40 exhibitors from around the region including Narrabri, Wee Waa, Moree, Goondiwindi, and even as far as Mudgee will showcase a wide range of fresh, delicious local produce, from locally-produced fish and yabbies and organic fresh vegetables, to gourmet handmade cookies and pale ales.
“We’re going back to basics this year – if you can eat it or drink it, it’ll be on exhibit,” Mr Tiemens said.
“It’s all about the celebration of food and drink.”
The Expo will also feature three big competitions – the Great Australian Cheesecake Competition, the Australian Regional Homebrew Championships, and the 2017 Nosh Cook Off.
The Great Australian Cheesecake Competition is a new event this year, with the committee aiming to hold Australia’s largest cheesecake competition.
With a baked and non-baked section, amateur cooks will face off for the title of Australia’s Cheesecake Champion, as well as the ultimate prize of two return flights to Brisbane or Sydney, courtesy of Fly Corporate.
The winning cheesecake will then be auctioned off, and all entries sliced and available for a gold coin donation.
“We’ve been flooded with entries, and not just country women – there’s lots of guys entering the competition,” Mr Tiemens said.
Another popular competition this year will be the Australian Regional Homebrew Championships, with a winner-takes-all first prize valued at $2,200.
The 2017 Nosh Cook Off once again promises to be a crowd-favourite as teams of locals battle-it-out to produce the best dish.
There will also be plenty to keep the kids entertained with a jumping castle, face painting, colouring-in competitions, a photobooth and more, all with a focus on healthy eating.
The festivities will then continue with the ‘Nosh On’ Night from 6.30pm which will see the market square converted into a family-friendly concert space for a celebration under the stars with food, drinks, music and fireworks.
Families and friends are encouraged to bring their picnic blankets and grab a space near the fire pits for a night of entertainment by local performers and major headliners, the iconic Aussie rockers Mental as Anything.
Tickets are still available, although are selling fast. General admission tickets are $45, with a VIP experience available for $100. Tickets can be purchased online at www.noshnarrabri.com.au.
To conclude the weekend of delicious food and beverages, 300 diners will be treated to a five course French-themed long lunch under the Nosh marquee on Sunday, August 27. The Nosh Long Lunch sold out in just 48 hours.
People from far and wide are encouraged to head to Narrabri this weekend for good food, mouth-watering beverages and great entertainment.
“Come along and support our local producers and enjoy the freshness of locally-produced food,” Mr Tiemens said.
