There was some great community spirit on display, everyone pitched in to help get the night going.
- Kristine Burgess
Every year, the money raised goes to a different charity or community group – this year, nine-year-old Jack Burgess inspired Spring Ridge to donate the money to the Starlight Foundation.
Jack was born atopic and has severe allergies, asthma and eczema and he's spent countless hours in the Starlight room at John Hunter hospital in Newcastle.
He wanted to give back to the organisation that kept him smiling between doctor’s appointments, so every Friday night for four months, Jack sold raffle tickets at the Spring Ridge Royal Hotel.
The community was so impressed with the $1400 he raised, they wanted to help out. Jack’s mum, Kristine, said it was an amazing effort by the small community.
“There was some great community spirit on display, everyone pitched in to help get the night going,” she said.
A bush rally was also organised, and it was so well received there are already plans for another one.
“We only had 11 entries because it started to rain, but everyone wants to do it again, so we are going to make it bigger and longer next year,” Ms Burgess said.
