The six-year-old Kelpie was found wandering on Quia Road near the tip on the weekend and is now under duty of care with the RSPCA.
The dog has no micro-chip and her owners have not come forward at this stage.
Dubbed Sadie, the mother-to-be could be days or weeks away from delivery, with a strong chance of needing a cesarean, according to vet nurse and RSPCA member, Maddison Lawback.
Ms Lawback said a cesarean was expensive, with the cost to fall on the RSPCA if the owners don’t claim her.
She said Sadie was carrying at least four puppies but was not lactating, which could be linked to her poor condition.
The RSPCA has purchased 40 kilograms of high quality puppy biscuits to prepare for the arrival of the puppies, which has also set the branch back financially.
Those who wish to donate can contact the RSPCA on 0419 474 689.
