The Tamworth MP said Gunnedah RTA is one of 24 registries across the state to be transformed into a Service NSW centre – a “one-stop-shop for government services” – as part of the recent budget announcements.
He said a proposed completion date for the project is set for 2019, but the local member wants to see it finished by the end of 2017.
“I’ve had a meeting with the Minister for Finance, Services and Property Victor Dominello recently and I made it clear to him that the Gunnedah centre is a prime site and to make sure we get the services that the community wants,” Mr Anderson said.
“I’m going to be meeting with him again to call for him to fast track it, that way we stay in control and it doesn’t get lost down the line.
“The government isn’t always in line with community expectations so I want to ensure it’s what Gunnedah wants and I want us to have a say in it.”
A Service NSW centre would include information and services for transport; roads and traffic; births, deaths and marriages; legal information and services; business and trades; environment, land and water; health and wellbeing; education and training; emergencies and safety; culture, sport and recreation; civic rights and responsibilities; housing and property; and legal information and services.
“One of the great things about it is the self-serve computers at the front of the centres, with a concierge to fast track requests,” Mr Anderson said.
Mr Anderson is also pushing for a transportation opal card station to be introduced at the centre.
He said the next stage is for the government to send planners to the site to see what work needs to be done to make the changes.
“I want it to create more jobs and have local people working here,” Mr Anderson said.
Mr Anderson will be meeting with Mr Dominello again in the next few weeks.
