Not many players can excel at batting, bowling and fielding but one Gunnedah High School student is ticking all those boxes.
Zoe Fleming is on the verge of notching up a new milestone on the back of stellar efforts in local and representatives teams.
The burgeoning all-rounder will head to Brisbane in August to trial for the Australian Indigenous training squad.
Not a bad effort for a 15-year-old but her coach at GHS, Bianca Small – who has mentored Fleming since year 3 – is not surprised.
“She’s always been a natural talent,” Small said.
“She’ll bat, she’ll bowl, she fields well and can wicket-keep as well.
“Earlier this year, she took nine out of the 10 wickets in the match – if she wasn’t bowling them, she was catching them or running them out.”
Natural talent has only gotten Fleming so far and Little said the cricketer’s work ethic was just as strong.
“She trains a fair bit, usually in Tamworth,” Little said.
“She has to go further than Gunnedah to further her sporting her career.
“She’s an all-rounder at everything, touch, netball, league tag, rugby league.
“She’s a great leader on and off the field – she’s on the SRC – I just can’t fault her.”
