Four newcomers to the committee have been welcomed with Justin Hobson taking on the role of vice-president, Sue Newbery was elected treasurer, Karen Coombs the carnival secretary and Kate Pinn the new social fund-raiser.
Kylie Williams (registrar/club night co-ordinator), Catherine Carr (secretary/publicity officer) and Hope Rennick (trophy steward) were all returned unopposed.
In his annual report, Mr Coombs thanked retiring coach and life member Glen Hobson for his support and expertise over the past two years and welcomed the return of former coach Pat McAdam.
“Glen has been helping us out these past couple of years, and it has been greatly appreciated by the committee and the swimmers,” he said.
“We wish him all the best in retirement and hope to see him at carnivals as a spectator for his grandchildren in the future.”
Mr Coombs also congratulated the swimmers who had recorded some outstanding results over the past 12 months.
“A large number of swimmers attended Charlestown for NSW Country regionals, we also had eight of our kids make it to long-course NSW Country Championships this year,” he said.
“All of our swimmers produced great times at the area meet, where four of our girls broke the record for the 200m medley relay and Jackson Carr and Mikaela Meyers broke individual age records – Mikaela also made it to state level again. Great work to everyone. The remainder of our swimmers have also had some fantastic personal best achievements this year, a number of them have had wonderful success at school level, congratulations to all of them and wishing them continued success.”
Mr Coombs also paid tribute to those involved in the learn-to-swim program and everyone who had volunteered at carnivals and club nights.
The Deb of the Year Ball continues to be a popular local event and coordinator Molly Dawson and her helpers were acknowledged for their ongoing support of the event.
The club received a grant from NSW Sport and Recreation, which enabled the purchase of a new Colorado Infinity starting machine. New marquees for swimming carnivals will be sourced with the remaining money.
Mr Coombs urged parents to attend the monthly committee meetings, where all members are welcome to have their say and voice any concerns. Members can check the Swimming Gunnedah Facebook page for all news and information.
