Give your child a head start in literacy by joining them up to the library’s 1000 Books Before School program or 1000 Books After School, for the older children – it’s easy, fun, and certificates are presented to the children for reading milestones reached.
Older children (seven years plus) can hone their skills with Junior Brain Games – an after school program held every Wednesday afternoon at 3.30pm. This includes reading and book discussion, activities such as join the dots, spot the difference, colour and creativity, and word games. Bookings are essential for Junior Brain Games, so please contact the library on 6740 2190 to secure a place for your child.
New books added to the collection include Greek Cafes & Milk Bars Of Australia by Effy Alexakis and Leonard Janiszewskil, which takes a nostalgic trip to the days when the Greek Cafe was the gathering place for every town and suburb. This book mentions the old Greek cafes of Gunnedah – The Busy Bee, The Monterey, The Acropolis and The White Rose.
Another new book is Mrs Kelly by Grantlee Kieza, which tells the astonishing life of Ned Kelly’s mother.
Talking books and Mp3s added to the collection in the past week include Not A Penny More, Not A Penny Less by Jeffrey Archer, A Walk In The Woods, a seriously funny book by Bill Bryson, The Girl On The Train by Paula Hawkins and Never Never, by James Patterson.
