Gunnedah Community Health registered nurse Susan Helps provides a free women’s health screening service. She has worked in the role for more than eight years and is passionate about providing rural women with access to health services and information.
“I offer females of all ages a one-hour confidential appointment, providing them with an opportunity to talk openly about sensitive and difficult issues. It is important for my clients not to feel rushed,” Ms Helps said.
The service is available at Gunnedah, Quirindi, Werris Creek and Boggabri, and provides pap smears, breast checks and current information about sexual health, contraception, menopause, continence, menstrual issues, post-natal depression and nutrition.
“I can also offer assistance or referrals to women who are experiencing domestic violence, loneliness or isolation. Sometimes women just need someone to talk to,” Ms Helps said. For appointments phone 6741 8000.
