The funeral mass was held at St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Gunnedah, adjacent to the same crossing where the 91-year-old was killed tragically earlier this month.
Mrs Ducrow, who was respected and admired by the whole community, was described as a “shining example of how we should live our life in harmony”.
“She had a natural disposition that allowed people to warm to her easily,” one parishioner said.
“There was no pretence in Mon, what you got was the genuine article.
“She extended her generosity with good judgement and humility.
“All of us have a story to tell about Mon.
“She was always thankful to have her faith, her family and her wide circle of friends.
“She was a woman of vision, a progressive, while still embracing the traditions of the church.
“We grieve and mourn a much-loved parishioner.”
He said her family could “always remember her as a truly remarkable and inspirational mother”.
Mon’s son, Tom, delivered the eulogy, describing the mother of eight children, grandmother to 19 and great grandmother to seven, as a simply beautiful person.
“Mon shone,” he said.
“She did the simple things really beautifully.
“It was a great thing to grow up in a family with such love.
“I should cry but I’m just so happy [thinking of her].
“She was a joy to be with, never short of a joke.
“It flowed from her love of God and humanity.”
He said his mother was “in touch with nature” and often made connections to faith with phrases often recited by the children such as “little flower in this hour show its power”.
Mourners packed St Joseph’s church for the funeral mass, spilling out into the courtyard where chairs were arranged. The tributes for Mon continued into the late morning on Monday.
In lieu of flowers, the Ducrow family asked donations be made to St Mary’s College.
