Staff and residents gathered in the main room for the 9.30am service with activities coordinator Tina McIntosh reciting the Anzac Requiem.
The group then sang Amazing Grace and volunteer Aylene Gale recited Ode to a Nurse.
After a tribute to Australia’s Armed Forces was played, both Chris Hartmann and Margaret McArthur laid a wreath on a table laden with old photographs and Anzac memorabilia.
Resident Nancy Jaeger recited The Ode and Gunnedah Shire band member, Amity Cleal played the Last Post which was followed by a minute’s silence. After Amity played the Reveille, the gathering sang the National Anthem and Frank Gallen said the prayer of thanks.
The service rounded off with a slideshow of photographs and information of the family members of residents who had been to war, and a morning tea of rosemary scones.
A unique element of the service was the rosemary sprig and paper poppy each member wore which was then matched to a service person listed on one of the centre’s walls.
