Some appeared focused on the prize and willing to win whatever the costs, most were non-fussed whether they won the loot or went home with nothing but the lining in their pockets.
“I just wing it, half the time I’m wrong,” Gunnedah player Jess Blair said.
Others like Dan, a former military member of 15 years, enjoyed rekindling traditions of the game.
“It brings it back to our roots,” he said.
“The Yanks had craps, we had two-up.
“It’s good for the older generation too, to relive their traditions.”
Over at the Courthouse Hotel, Ben Collins was trying his best to win a quick buck.
He preferred to stick with the same call on the 50/50 bet, no matter the stakes.
“I pick one and don’t change,” Mr Collins said.
The Courthouse and Railway hotels were among just a handful of Gunnedah venues taking part in the traditional Anzac Day game tradition. Curlewis’ Commercial Hotel was also scheduled to run two-up on Anzac Day.
