The $100,000 race attracted 41 nominations on Monday, headed by Prelude winner It’s A Shamozzle.
It’s A Shamozzle, boasting a 91 rating, is poised to be the top-weight when the weights are declared on Wednesday afternoon.
As expected there is strong interest from trainers throughout the North West, but also from the Mid North Coast and Central West.
Mudgee trainer David Smith has set his stable star Distinctive Look, fresh from an eye-catching Country Championship campaign, at the race.
Quirindi trainers Peter Mills (Cocktail Time), Geoff O’Brien (Blood Red Moon) and Scott Thompson (Exitozo) all threw entries in for the Showcase event.
Gunnedah trainer Sally Torrens elected to take a different path with her stayer Supreme Goddess.
Supreme Goddess ran sixth beaten just shy of five lengths in the Mornington Cup Prelude, but did not feature in the entries taken for the Cup itself.
The mare looked well-placed in a race at Armidale, run on Anzac Day.
The Mornington Cup, the staying support feature on Tamworth Cup Day run at 2100m, consisted of 17 entries, headed by Prelude winner Bob’s A Dazzler.
Having broken her winning drought at Moree recently, In Hindsight generates interest with her presence in the entries for the $35,000 Jardel Cup (1200m).
The race is restricted to fillies and mares, with In Hindsight, rated 64, assured of a start.
Trainer Gavin Groth was delighted to see the daughter of Nicconi get the job done at Moree, which doubled as a confidence-booster ahead of this assignment.
Groth is likely to have Jazzee Nicc run on the bumper card.
Jazzee Nicc ran a slashing last-start third at Mudgee and features among the nominations for a $30,000 Class 2 Handicap.
The lone Torrens-trained trainer in the entries is Ansa, nominated for the $30,000 Showcase Maiden (1400m).
Acceptances for the Tamworth Cup meeting are taken on Thursday morning.
THERE was strong Gunnedah interest at the Anzac Day meeting in Armidale.
The New England town was the scene for a five-event card which saw four runners from the Torrens stable and Karen Fox saddle up Kalakhani.
We’ll have results from that non-TAB meeting in Thursday’s edition of the Namoi Valley Independent.
