But it is cricket, rather than the synonymous sound of V8 Supercars tearing their way up and down Mount Panorama, which dominates the town’s sporting landscape next week.
Bathurst is playing host to the NSW Combined High Schools Girls Cricket Finals.
Gunnedah High School has progressed unbeaten to the last four and is drawn to take on Goulburn-based Mulwaree High School in Tuesday's semi-final.
Coach and team manager Bianca Small said the girls would make the trip south in a confident frame of mind after sealing the North West title late last year.
"It's a bit over four hours on the bus down to Bathurst, so we'll travel down on Monday," Small said.
"We defeated Warialda and then Oxley High to be crowned as North West champions, and now we're off to the state finals.
"If we can win the semi-final, we'll play the winner of the other semi between Hunter Sports and Hay, with the grand final scheduled for Wednesday."
Regardless of what happens in Bathurst, this Gunnedah team has already made history as Small explained.
"I was talking to the former long-time cricket coach and he said that in his 31 years that Gunnedah had never made it to the state finals," she said.
"This is my second year and I feel lucky to coach such a great group of girls.
"We've got two players in year 12, but the side is mainly made up of girls from years eight to 10, and we do have a year seven student in Claire McGuirk.
“They have reaped the rewards of their hard work and deserve this opportunity to represent their school at the state finals.”
The team's trumpcard is brilliant all-rounder Zoe Fleming.
Fleming represented NSW with distinction at the National Indigenous Cricket Championships earlier this year and is a shining star of the Central North Zone.
"Zoe is a key player for us, against Oxley she took nine wickets and scored 40-odd to get us across the line," Small said.
"But we've had some important contributions from right across the side.
"We had girls at the start who said they can't bowl, they only wanted to bat, but now are bowling one or two important overs for us.
“That has been the exciting thing for me as a coach.”
