The group was replaced with one-on-one sessions, but has now seen a restructure and reopened on Tuesday. Local mothers campaigned after the cancellation of the group saw a lack of post-natal support and discussions resulted in a remodel of the group.
Gunnedah Health Service manager Melissa O’Brien said the group will run every Tuesday from 10am to 12pm at the Jacaranda Day Centre in Reservoir Street.
“Each session will have an educational component of about 30 minutes attended by either the Child and Family Health Nurse or a guest clinician,” Ms O’Brien said.
An example of the topics that will be covered are baby settling, massage, growth and development, looking after a sick child, self-care, introducing solids, speech development, and women’s health and contraception. The group will run in 12-week blocks, with mothers able to attend until their babies are 12-weeks-old.
