Gunnedah’s Project Koala kicked off in January 2015 in a bid to help save Gunnedah’s koala population.
Partners to the project include the Namoi Valley Independent, North West Local Land Services, WIRES, Landcare, Waterways Wildlife Park and the Gunnedah community.
Since the project started, thousands of trees have been planted and the community have joined in a concerted effort to take some action to help our koalas.
The concern for declining numbers prompted North West Local Land Services to contract an ecologist to prepare a koala conservation plan focussing on what people and communities could do to help koalas. The Gunnedah Koala Conservation Plan includes a straightforward list of actions for departments and authorities, Landcare, community groups and the public.
As part of enacting this plan, a Facebook page – Project Koala – Gunnedah – has been set up to let people know what is happening, and to record koala sightings in the region. We need your sightings, videos and photos!
Take a look, like the page and help us keep a record of koalas in the area.
