Water was spilling from the roof of the cafe, as management were instructing customers to vacate the indoor seating area.
The restaurant area is closed, however, McDonald’s confirmed the drive thru area is still open.
Gunnedah saw 26mm in 15 minutes, with the storm continuing into the afternoon.
Storm water drains are backed up with water along Conadilly Street and drivers are navigating through rising water at the Elgin Street roundabout.
South Street drains are also struggling with the downpour.
One reader lost their trampoline along Conadilly Street and water is slowly rising on the Tempest Street end of Wolseley Park.
