This year’s club donation was $954, while the winning team in the four-person Ambrose was named Hardy.
The triumphant team comprised of Christian Hardy, Ben Sills, Ray Robinson and Hamish Molenkamp, while their score was 53.
Scholarship fund coordinator and Gunnedah Shire Council (GSC) youth development officer Sewa Emojong talked about the scholarship fund, saying it was a means of assisting Gunnedah youngsters with their tertiary endeavours.
“The golf day is one of our major fundraisers,” Emojong said.
“One hundred per cent of funds raised go straight into the scholarship fund.”
Emojong and GSC deputy mayor Gae Swain referred to a report from a number of years ago, revealing that the Gunnedah region had low student retention rates at university.
“We know it’s harder for country kids to go away for further education… whether it’s university, TAFE or agricultural college,” Swain said.
Swain noted that some students who benefited from funding had gone on to become doctors, physios or engineers.
Thanks were made to golfers and sponsors involved with the charity golf day.
“Events like this can’t happen without the generosity of local businesses,” Emojong said.
“We’re very grateful for their support.”
