A pointer cross and her two puppies were surrendered to the RSPCA and were in need of new homes.
One of the puppies, Brandie, was snapped up by a Tamworth family at 12 weeks of age.
A member of the Hall family fell in love with the delightful female pup when she saw her photo on the Adopt a Pet website. She shared it with her father Mick who decided to meet Brandie when he was working in Gunnedah.
Mick said the family wanted to adopt a rehome dog and had met a few dogs in Tamworth but they weren’t the right fit.
The family was looking for a companion for their 17-year-old whippet, so Brandie was brought over to their house on Christmas Eve by a Gunnedah RSPCA member. Brandie never left.
Mick said she was a “beautiful little dog” and played well with their whippet.
“She’s amazing,” he said.
“She’s very obedient and we’re teaching her small things as we go.
“She actually gives my older dog a lot more up and go.”
Mick said rehoming was a great idea because it gives animals “another chance in life”.
“It’s a shame to see dogs get put down,” he said.
Brandie has been enjoying the family’s pool and spending time with her new family.
Mick said she was a Christmas present for the whole family.
“She was perfect for us,” he said.
RSPCA member Maddison Lawback said the branch was thrilled that Brandie had a new home.
“They’re a beautiful family. They just love her so it’s really exciting,” Maddison said.
There are still a number of Gunnedah dogs in need of homes.
