Metro Thunder Cyclone, Country Thunder Tornado and Metro Sixers Waves will be Swell’s opponents from Monday to Wednesday before the finals are played on Australia Day.
Clarke earned selection following his appearances for Central Northern in last week’s Kookaburra Cup at Griffith, as Central Northern tied with Southern/ACT and then beat Newcastle, Riverina and Central Coast before losing to Western.
Although Clarke didn’t have a lot of time at the crease as his scores were 3, 17, 8, 6 not out and 4 – usually as an opener – the selectors liked the look of his technique and athleticism, and consequently chose him as an opener at the next level.
Speaking of last week’s experience in Griffith, Clarke said “the hot weather made it a very challenging week”.
“I felt good at the crease and played some good shots,” Clarke said, before noting that he was disappointed he didn’t make a big score after he “went into the carnival feeling very positive”.
“In one innings I ended up running myself out on 17 after feeling really settled and ready for a big one,” he said.
“It was just a silly mistake; it was so hot.
“I was surprised to be selected for the State Challenge but I guess the selectors saw enough.”
Clarke said he felt “very lucky” and would “make the most of this great opportunity”.
“I’m really enjoying batting at the moment,” he said.
“I feel well prepared for Dubbo next week.”
