Ms Stone joined the society as project officer in 2010.
"I worked with four presidents and a number of different boards over that time while the poetry competition has become the largest in Australia with some 12,000 entries in 2016,” Ms Stone said.
Ms Stone was involved in organising seven National Poetry Competitions, the creation of the MAAS Walk leading to the Dorothea Mackellar sculpture, the opening of the Mackellar Centre in ANZAC Park, and the conduct of a number of poetry workshops and participation in regional poetry tours.
"Overall, I think we can be very proud of what we have achieved and the fact that people such as Margaret White, Mark Vaille and Professor Peter Shergold have been prepared to join the society as patrons is a clear recognition that many people see the society's work and achievement in promoting the writing and appreciation of poetry among our students as extremely worthwhile,” Ms Stone said.
Ms Stone’s efforts were acknowledged by society president Philippa Murray.
"Mila was probably our longest serving project officer. We thank her for her many contributions and effort over that time, steering us through ups and downs while also being the consistent public face for the society in the community,” Ms Murray said.
"This year has been a bit of a rollercoaster year and we have much to appreciate due to Mila's work in successfully completing the poetry awards and moving into the new centre."
