“Rest assured, if anyone can deliver a project of this scale and complexity, it’s Duncan Gay,” a spokesperson for the Minister of Roads and Freight said.
Mr Gay promised in State Parliament last week to visit Gunnedah and “talk to the local people” about the future direction of the rail overpass, which had spiralled to nearly four-times the initial cost earmarked in 2012.
He planned to meet with Gunnedah Shire Council and Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson in the coming weeks to discuss “all options” for the complex project.
“The community has made it clear $58 million for a road-over-rail bridge in Gunnedah is not aligned with their expectations,” the spokesperson said.
“This is an extremely complex and challenging project where major highways and roads intersect with a major railway line, all converging in a major regional town centre.
“As is appropriate with a project of this importance the minister and local member will meet with council to discuss all options.”
