When association president Ron Welsh presented Mrs Boehm with the highest accolade, Life Ambassador of NSW Meals on Wheels, the audience gave her a standing ovation.
“I have the considerable honour and privilege to recognise the work of a remarkable lady who, whilst on the board, showed a passion not only for activities of NSW Meals on Wheels Association but also for the clients of the service she represented,” Mr Welsh told the audience.
“Mrs Boehm has been a member of the NSW Meals on Wheels Board of Governors for 13 years.
“During that time she has served as president for seven terms, vice president three terms, and secretary one term, and treasurer for one term.”
Mrs Boehm also served as chairperson and member of the NSW Meals on Wheels Company Board for six years, and represented NSW Meals on Wheels on the Australian Meals on Wheels Association board for two years.
Mr Welsh said Mrs Boehm showed her “passion” for the association when she emceed the 2014 conference despite health issues.
‘She worked up to and through the 2014 conference with a serious health problem that was not revealed to her colleagues until after the conference was completed,” he said.
Mr Welsh said the Life Ambassador award was “a much deserved award and reward for years of dedicated contribution to the work of NSW Meals on Wheels”. Her name will be added to the Association Honour Roll.
NSW Meals on Wheels chief executive officer, Les MacDonald, said Mrs Boehm made his job easier through her “competence, support and mentoring” in all of her roles.
“Her leadership was outstanding and her support for me, and for the staff of the association was crucial in the association achieving what it has over that period for the Meals on Wheels network in NSW and in her role on the national board as well,” he said.
“The association will miss her wise counsel and enormous enthusiasm and commitment to the cause of Meals on Wheels throughout Australia.”
Mrs Boehm was the manager of Boggabri HACC Multi Service Outlet, providing Meals on Wheels, Community Transport, centre-based daycare and social support with a team of dedicated volunteers from January 1996 to November 2015.
