By last week, the agency had adopted out 313 ex-racing greyhounds – a record for its program. It followed concerns by Curlewis greyhound owners worried about the fate of thousands of dogs across the state impacted by the looming NSW racing ban.
“GAP aims to rehome as many greyhounds as possible both up to and well after the closure of the greyhound racing industry in NSW,” a GAP spokesperson told the NVI. “GAP is aware that there will be a significant number of greyhounds retiring from racing after the closure of the greyhound racing industry and that a proportion of these will be surrendered for rehoming. GAP is continuing to invest in ways to increase the capacity of the program to meet the anticipated demand from owners and trainers and people who wish to adopt greyhounds.”
