The concept proved a resounding success as a decent-sized gathering of spectators enjoyed a close and well fought game which wasn’t reflected in the result.
NIF general manager Gavin Flanagan expressed satisfaction with proceedings and indicated that the women’s fixture would become an annual event along with the men’s contest.
Phoebe Cave showed her class and was the standout performer for the victors, scoring two goals and setting up another.
Cave opened the scoring in the fourth minute when she approached a defender and drove the ball past the defender and goalkeeper.
Both sides moved the ball around, and the referee’s whistle sounded moments before an Invitational player found the back of the net to no avail.
A goal to Lilly Nichols was followed by Cave’s second goal as the score became 3-0 before the match was 30 minutes old.
Tamworth keeper Emily Rixon made a couple of splendid saves in the first half, while her counterpart saved a dot shot.
A good pass from Cave set up the only goal of the second half, with Abbey Bridge sending the ball into the net.
