The church was overflowing with family and friends as the children began their individual faith journey which was started by their parents at Baptism.
The Mass was con-celebrated by Father John McHugh and Father Thaddeus Ike, with the First Communicants taking part in the liturgy.
In his homily, Father John spoke about the Last Supper of Jesus Christ with his apostles and his words “do this in memory of me” which became the celebration of Mass.
After Mass, the children were presented with commemorative certificates before celebrating with a large cake and morning tea in the parish hall.
The children will now progress towards their next sacrament of Confirmation.
This sacrament is called Confirmation because the faith given in Baptism is now confirmed and made strong as young Catholics accept responsibility for their own faith and destiny.
