The speed will be reduced from 80km/h to 50km/h for about 700 metres west of Alford Road on the Oxley Highway.
A number of speed zone changes along the Oxley Highway have already been implemented and more will follow in the next few months to improve safety for motorists.
Parliamentary Secretary for Regional Roads and Rail, Kevin Anderson said the safety review involved extensive consultation in 2013 with communities along this stretch of road, including feedback sessions in Warren, Tamworth, Gunnedah, Walcha and Wauchope, with the final report published in 2015.
The review recognised a strong need to review speed zones and their lengths, and enhance road user behavioural campaigns. Roads and Maritime will keep the community informed on when changes will take place.
