At 2pm the river height was steady at 6.99m as the water flow encroached further inland.
Crowds were drawn to the riverbank near Cohen’s Bridge, snapping pictures on phones and describing to kids where the water line used to be.
One woman pointed to the half-submerged concrete pillars which usually designate the edge of the carpark. She was able to drive her car down there yesterday afternoon but by mid-morning Friday, it was boat-only access.
THE NSW State Emergency Service advised localised flooding would be experienced at Cushans Reserve, the Gunnedah to Kelvin road near Cohen’s Bridge and the low area of the river flats on the north side of the Namoi.
The water flow should reach Boggabri on Saturday where a 7m minor flood level was expected.
Impacted areas include Barbers Lagoon, Boston Street Bridge, Manilla Road near iron bridge, Braymont to Blue Vale Road, Therribri Road and the lower areas of the river flats on either side of the Namoi River.
The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast a slight chance of rain Saturday for the north west slopes and plains but high chance on Sunday.
