Outlying centres like Curlewis feel let down but a Gunnedah-centric council.
“We’re paying for stuff but not seeing anything for it,” one local resident told the NVI on Saturday. “We don’t think they do much for outlying areas. Council hardly come near us.”
The question on what potential councillors would do for Gunnedah’s surrounding villages like Carroll, Tambar Springs and Kelvin received vocal crowd support at the recent meet the candidates forum.
Election day offered those disgruntled with the current arrangement to vote for those who they thought would do a better job. But some considered the choice between candidates an even-money bet.
“They’re all about the same aren’t they?” one voter questioned.
Another Curlewis resident thought a change in councillors “wouldn’t hurt” if elected.
“You’ve got to put the cat amongst the pigeons,” he grinned.
