Hosted by the Gunnedah club at their Balcary Park circuit, big expectation was building for the local contingent at nationals.
Many competed in the third round of the club championship last weekend which also served as perfect opportunity to sneak in last-minute competition practice.
Among those to star was Billy Van-Eerde who won the 100-150cc two-stroke 13-under 16 years and the 200-250cc 13-under 16 years race divisions.
Also bagging a double was Willis Lawman who placed first in the 85cc 13-under 16 years and 11-under 13 years big wheels.
In senior divisions, Arron Smith took out the Pro 250cc and Clubman classes meanwhile club veteran and this year’s publicity officer, Troy Whittaker, wound back the clock to feature in four wins. He beat some of Gunnedah’s talented youth to snare the Pro Open Unlimited, Pro 450cc Senior, MX Open and Over 35 years divisions.
Whittaker said the weekend of racing was close throughout and podium positions anyone’s for the taking.
Next week the NVI will preview local riders competing at the Australian championships.
