Money was announced for the project in the state Budget by Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson and builds on more than $700,000 in upgrades to community services training facilities and student learning spaces at the Gunnedah campus since 2011.
Following the anticipated agriculture and mining production, as well as flow-on growth in the industries which support them, Mr Anderson said TAFE needs to stay ahead of industry needs and position itself at the centre of meeting those industry and training needs.
The upgrade, set to begin next year, will include an overhaul of facilities to create multi-use trades spaces, contemporary student learning hubs and will invest in mobile training equipment to increase access to training in regional and remote communities.
The aim is to also meet the changing demands of students.
“This includes upgrading facilities to a more modern, industry-relevant standard with an open workshop to accommodate more trades and more automotive and other vehicles to improve student learning,” a spokesperson for Mr Anderson said.
TAFE New England’s Trades and Primary Industries faculty delivers trainee and apprentice training in partnership with business and industry.
On the Gunnedah campus, training and courses in Metals and Engineering, as well as Automotive Mechanical, prepares students for employment in growing industries.
