Landcare member Mark Kesby said the “driving force” behind the event was a need for advice on soil, plant and water management on small acreage farms.
Ecologist Phil Spark will discuss biodiversity on farms, and Craig Carter from Liverpool Plains Land Management will talk to farmers about how they can manage grazing on an acre.
Property owners in town will learn about plants and animals relevant to the local area including tree planting advice and native plant giveaways.
Farmers will benefit from advice on soil and water management, weed identification and management strategies, and general animal heath advice.
Participants can bring along water and soils samples to find out which plants are suitable for the soil type on their farm and whether the water is safe for animals and plants. Qualified lab technicians will be on site and can provide on-the-day results. Water samples need to be in clean uncontaminated containers and dry soil samples are preferable.
Refreshments, coffee van and a free sausage sizzle lunch will be available for participants.
The event is supported by Regional Landcare Facilitator, Local Land Services North West, the National Landcare Programme, and Liverpool Plains Land Management.
