It’s alleged the male broke into a house on June 18 and stole jewellery worth $3000 along with an amount of cash and alcohol. 

Forensic evidence identified the teenager who was refused bail in Gunnedah Local Court last week and sent to Tamworth awaiting a court date to to be fixed. 

The arrest follows a warning from Gunnedah police after a spike in break-and-enters in south west Gunnedah. 

Police are ramming home the ‘lock-up your house’ message once again, after four houses were broken into and property stolen. 

Businesses in the industrial area were also targeted, however nothing was taken. 

“Basically, people are going to work and finding their house has been broken into where doors and windows have been left unlocked or opened,” Gunnedah Police Sergeant Jacob Cantwell said.

He added that during the winter time, crime does reduce dramatically with the colder weather and incidents had quietened down until now. 

However it can come in waves.

“We are reinforcing that people need to be security-safe and make sure that all doors and windows are locked,” Sergeant Cantwell said.
