The community will receive another welcome injection in the coming days as more events roll into town.
Among the biggest of them will be Saturday’s Sundowner cycle classic in Gunnedah, which will attract a few hundred competitors and support teams from around the state.
Also in the pipeline is meet the candidates election event to be held at the Gunnedah Rugby Club on Wednesday, however dates are yet to be confirmed.
But it’s not just one-off events driving growth, and best of all, people are sticking around.
Taxi driver Tony Gold has seen plenty of changes over the years. He said the bustling town centre was as good an indication as any of our strong economy.
“You see more people on the street, it’s certainly harder to get a park,” Gold said.
Functions were also still a big drawcard for local business.
“If there’s a function, the people will support it,” he said.
But while the good times keep rolling, Mr Gold was concerned Gunnedah’s long-term strategy will be forgotten.
“I think they need a clear plan in place for when the mines move on,” he said.
Also experiencing a steady increase in business was Brad McIvor and the team at Gunnedah Gas Centre.
“It’s a busy time for gas,”Mr McIvor said.
“We’ve only had the shop for 12 months but generally, business has been good.”
He diversified from a standalone air-conditioning operation to include heating during the winter months.
Another pleased with the community growth was Gunnedah Chamber of Commerce president, Jamie Chaffey.
He said attracting more more events to town was a key part of their strategy.
“It’s a great way to showcase our town and the quality of our facilities,” Mr Chaffey said.
He was not long off the plane from China and was encouraged by the new horizons on offer for the north west.
“There are big opportunities to expand in our region not only domestically but internationally as well,” he said
Also scheduled this weekend is the Coonabarabran dog show hosted by the Gunnedah Kennel Club.
Nearly 300 dogs and handlers will visit over three days from Friday to Sunday.
