The delegation of seven people have spent the last five days in Gunnedah and the neighbouring districts visiting schools, farms, and industry.
Hosted by the Gunnedah and District Chamber of Commerce, the group enjoyed many highlights including a visit to "Gunnible" orange orchard, whip cracking demonstration from Steve and Daniel Wicks, Gomeroi dance performance, lunch prepared by Gunnedah South Primary School students, teaching Chinese in school classrooms and getting up close with our native animals at Waterways Wildlife Park.
The delegation rounded off their five-day trip with a tour of Namoi Valley Bricks where they were given a barbecue lunch and taught about the brick making process by owner and Chamber of Commerce member Michael Broekman, and his father Gerard Broekman.
"We wish our friends from China all the best and I hope they had a good time looking at everything we've got in Gunnedah," Michael Broekman said.
As a farewell, Liu Bing gave Gunnedah mayor Owen Hasler a bottle of high quality rice wine in a wooden case carved with sayings of Confucius. Deputy mayor Gae Swain received a small screen illustrated with pandas from Hua GaoFeng (Michael). Both councillors told the delegation that they would treasure the gifts.
"We've had a wonderful few days and really appreciate you taking the time to come," Councillor Swain told the delegation.
Councillor Hasler said he hoped to see members of the delegation in Gunnedah again or over in NingBo.
"I have to say each time I met with the group there was a increased sense of friendliness and repertoire between us," he told the delegation.
"You have been great ambassadors for your city and your country."
Cr Hasler said he hoped Gunnedah and NingBo would become sister cities in the future and jested that he "came last" when learning Chinese with Gunnedah's delegation before they visited the Linhe district in July last year.
Hua GaoFeng (Michael) thanked the councillors and Chamber of Commerce members on behalf of the delegation, saying they made deep connections with locals.
"This is a wonderful business trip," he said.
"With my family and friends I come here next time. I love it."
The delegation left Gunnedah at lunchtime to travel to Tamworth airport and flew to Sydney this afternoon.
