Lust x Heartbreak2 aims to be difficult to classify, as the band further blurs the genre lines and creates music that is fresh and vibrant.
Brad, on vocals and acoustic guitar, is joined by Sean Henderson on keys, Grant Rutups on guitar, bassist Adam Brown and Mark Levers on drums.
The former Gunnedah man moved to Sydney when he turned 18 and attended the JMC Academy of Music.
“Music was always my passion,” he said.
“I was doing it when I was 15 because I saw Hanson at a school disco on the big screen and thought, ‘I could do that’.
“Queen is a big influence for me, and a lot of the 1980s like Def Leppard and Bob Dylan, as well as John Mayer who is definitely a big influence currently.”
The band members have a variety of influences, though – Henderson loves classical music and the guitarists have backgrounds in funk and jazz.
“Sean and I met each other in Sydney, and I was originally a drummer and played drums on the album,” Brad said.
“It took about a year to get everything together and get the album done.”
The album was released through Manga Republic, and MGM picked up the distribution.
“It’s all sort of happening very quickly,” Patison said.
Brad wrote the songs on Lust x Heartbreak2 and said they were written in the third person, arranged as a story through the songs one to nine.
“A lot was written in the third person, observing people’s relationships and the thoughts and feelings when you observe those people and their behaviour,” he said.
“The album goes through the motions – one to nine, so it’s best listened to start to finish, which is a bit different.”
He said he hoped people listened to it and thought about the songs and music.
“I hope it sparks something of a reaction and longevity, where people can refer back to when they associated those emotions that they felt,” Brad said.
The album was released on April 8 with a launch in Sydney and a tour kicking off soon.
Brad said he wanted to bring shows to the region as he had family in Gunnedah and Werris Creek.
