The Gunnedah Airport wind speed peaked at 46km/h, gusting at 65km/h at 5.30pm on Thursday.
The windy weather continued overnight before settling to 32km/h in a south-easterly direction at 10am this morning.
A Bureau of Meteorology spokesman said conditions were caused by predominately "upper winds" in the North West Slopes and Plains.
Gunnedah is copping the brunt of the blustery weather, recording the highest wind speed for our region and second only to Dubbo (33km/h) in the Central West Slopes and Plains.
This morning's wind speeds are almost three times the February average (9.1km/h) for Gunnedah, according to Bureau of Meteorology climate statistics.
The good news we may have seen the worst of it.
But complete relief won't come any time soon with winds forecast to be 25-35km/h throughout Friday and Saturday.
