The people pictured here are the first in a Gunnedah campaign to say no to violence in 2016.
Last year saw Gunnedah send a clear message: family violence is not acceptable.
Residents turned out in force to join a World Record attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the largest human mosaic in the shape of a white ribbon.
The white ribbon is the symbol against domestic violence.
While the attempt to break the record did not succeed, it did show Gunnedah’s conviction to end family violence.
This was followed up by a number of people taking a pledge against domestic violence on White Ribbon Day.
To continue to voice our determination to put an end to violence, Gunnedah’s Domestic Violence Interagency Committee and the Namoi Valley Independent are encouraging people to make a public stand.
Gunnedah residents are being asked to take a photo of themselves with their message reading: “I stand against violence because...” and fill in their own reason.
People can post the photos on Twitter with the hashtag #gunnedahsaysnotoviolence or send them to marie.low@fairfaxmedia.com.au who will post them for you.
The Namoi Valley Independent will build up a gallery of people joining the campaign.
This is your way to say enough is enough.
The project is focused on community awareness and the prevention of domestic violence and violence in our community.
It aims to send a message to the Gunnedah community that women experiencing domestic violence need to be heard and that they are supported in our community.
And it’s about making 2016 the first year in a world that’s even better. Let’s see how many faces we can get to support this campaign!
