Work began at the former Crazy Clark’s building in Conadilly Street in late October, and the footpath is now cordoned off.
In July this year, the Whitehaven board held a meeting in Gunnedah and met with Gunnedah Shire Council representatives at the site.
Whitehaven chief executive officer Paul Flynn told the Namoi Valley Independent that it was important for the company to have a “bricks and mortar presence” in Gunnedah.
The office will be a new location for Whitehaven staff who are currently based at the coal handling and preparation plant.
About 30 employees will work out of the Gunnedah office on a permanent basis in a wide range of roles including planning, environmental and technical services.
“We will have a physical presence where people can interact with us,” Mr Flynn told the NVI in July.
“People will know where to find us and where to apply for a job or ask a question. We will be more easily accessible to the community.”
