At the awards announced last night in Sydney, Boggabri Drover's Campfire took out the award ahead of fellow finalists the 2015 Penrith CBD Festival, the Parkes Elvis Festival, the Sydney Country Music Festival, the Camden Show and Twilight at Taronga.
Boggabri's Geoff Eather said organisers had not expected to be announced the winners.
"The other people in the category were a lot bigger players than us," Mr Eather said.
"They announced the bronze winner, then the silver winner. There were five or six in our category so we thought we either got nothing or we would get the big one.
"Well, we got the big one. It's unreal."
Mr Eather and his wife Elaine and Ron and May Boxsell attended the awards held at Dockside Pavilion.
Mr Eather said the Lions Club and huge community involvement from the town with a population of only about 900 was behind the success of the event.
The event started in 2006 with 29 vehicles and caravans,12 tents and 57 people. By 2014, the event had grown to 502 vehicles and 1255 people. Storms and floods led to some cancellations this year.
Those who attend are treated to shows, displays, campfire meals, tours and Australian entertainment.
Member for Barwon Kevin Humphries congratulated Boggabri Drovers' Campfire.
"The Drovers' Campfire has gone from strength to strength and it is wonderful to see the event recognised for the truly unique bush festival that it is," Mr Humphries said.
"Our region has so much to offer domestic and international visitors and I am delighted that our wonderful tourism products were recognised at this year's NSW Tourism Awards.
"This is a true testament to the quality experiences that the Drovers' Campfire offers tourists who are continuously drawn back to the area year after year."
Minister for Trade, Tourism and Major Events Stuart Ayres said it was an honour to be at this year's NSW Tourism Awards and congratulated the individuals and businesses on their outstanding accomplishments over the last year.
"In the year ended June 2015, the tourism industry contributed a massive $23.6 billion in international and domestic overnight visitor expenditure to the NSW economy," he said.
"These phenomenal figures demonstrate the significance of recognising the thousands of individuals who have worked tirelessly to ensure that NSW remains the number one tourism destination state."
The 2015 NSW Tourism Awards includes 29 categories in a range of tourism areas such as major tourist attractions, ecotourism, destination marketing, accommodation, tourism education and training.
Boggabri Drovers' Campfire has had a very successful year in 2015, recently winning both the Inland Community Event and Festivals award and the Judges' Award at the Inland Tourism Awards.
