There is, of course, no race track at Keepit but the Sport and Recreation Camp will have all the glamour of Flemington when race-goers dress in their finest and enjoy the atmosphere as pre-recorded races are called – only the organisers know the results.
Acting program co-ordinator is Gunnedah’s Peter Chapman who has recently returned after working in the Sydney-Newcastle area running similar events.
“They’re a great deal of fun,” Peter said.
“I’m the MC/racecaller for the night and we have a few other novelty events such as fashions in the field that will help generate the atmosphere of a real race event.
“With six races you have six chances to back a winner, all with the help of your own printed form guide – your table could even take home the overall winner’s trophy.
“This is an ideal Christmas opportunity for businesses to enjoy as an end-of-year gathering with staff.”
There is accommodation available at the centre for those who would like to stay overnight.
Camp Quality’s purpose is to create a better life for every child (0-13 years) living with cancer, and their families, by building optimism and resilience throughout each stage of their cancer journey.
Camp Quality’s programs are Australia-wide and are available right from diagnosis, throughout treatment and in remission or bereavement, supporting the whole family, at hospital, at home, back at school and away from it all.
The Lake Keepit Christmas Cup will be held on Friday, December 18, at the Sport and Recreation Centre, on Fitness Camp Road, from 6.30-10pm.
The cost is $400 for a table of eight, with a three-course meal included. A cash bar will be available.
Transport is included for those travelling from Tamworth and the cost will be $500 for a table of eight.
