Boggabri was first to post points when lock forward Boyde Campbell found a hole in the defence and stepped Dungowan’s fullback to score under the posts. Jayde Campbell converted and Boggy led 6-0.
Unfortunately fullback Jack Gillham received a knock to his jaw when returning a kick by Dungowan in the opening stages of the game.
His organisation of the line defence was greatly missed after a play the ball mistake by Boggabri. Dungowan took advantage and within 15 minutes had crossed for four tries to race to a 22-6 lead.
Boggabri eventually saw some possession close to half time when Daniel Poss dummied and stepped to score a much-needed try. The conversion was unsuccessful and Dungowan had a handy 22-10 lead at half time.
Boggabri continued to pressure Dungowan’s defence which held solidly until five-eight Brad Hamilton popped a magic ball to Chris Sheridan who hit the gap to score under the posts. Jayde Campbell converted but Dungowan was still in front 22-20.
The huge crowd of Boggy supporters found its voice and lifted the Roos.
Bob Jones popped a great ball back just short of the line for Cameron ‘Big Marn’ Chaffey to swoop on the ball and twist his way over, much to the delight of the crowd. Jayde converted to have Boggy in front 26-22 with seven minutes remaining.
Dungowan only had one real chance to score in the second half when they had a player held up under the posts in a marvellous tackle by Blake McIlveen and Arron Hobden. This amazing effort by these two young men with minutes remaining no doubt contributed greatly to a Boggabri victory.
The boys held Dungowan out for the rest of the six tackles and charged downfield for centre Jayde Campbell to score in the left corner and with the conversion successful sealed the match 32-22.
The club congratulated its squad of 19 players on a sterling effort.
Boggabri has this Saturday off and awaits the result of the Kootingal and Werris Creek clash to know who their opposition will be in the final.
