There hasn’t been a Relay in Gunnedah since 2012 and the Cancer Council is hoping locals are wanting to make a difference in the community and host an event in 2016.
About $40,000 was raised at Gunnedah’s last event, which saw more than 500 people hit the track for 24 hours.
More than 30 survivors and their carers took part in an emotional opening ceremony and first lap, where they celebrated their survival and showed their support for those still struggling with the disease.
A candelight remembrance ceremony was held at dusk to reflect on those loved-ones who lost their battle with cancer.
Volunteers would be required to attend monthly meetings in the lead up to the event and more frequent meetings in the two months before the event.
Volunteers would report to the Cancer Council community relations co-ordinator and work together to achieve overall targets for the event, including participant registration, team registrations, fundraising, sponsorship and community support.
Expressions of interest are being taken by August 15 to Ashleigh Worldon on 6763 0900 or ashleigh.worldon@nswcc.org.au
