GUNNEDAH Day VIEW Club celebrated its 42nd birthday at a luncheon on Friday.

The function was well attended, with members from Manilla, Narrabri and Gunnedah Evening VIEW clubs and zone councillor Beryl Pike in attendance.
The guest speaker was Miranda Broekman, 2015 Gunnedah Showgirl. Miranda’s mum Nicole and grandmother Frances Keating were guests of the club for the luncheon.
Miranda, who was born in Gunnedah, spoke to the club about her life so far, including her education at St Xavier’s and St Mary’s College, where she was school captain.
She told the group of her passion for politics.
Miranda is employed as an electorate diary manager in the Tamworth office of Federal Member for New England, Barnaby Joyce.
VIEW club president Pat Jones presented Miranda with flowers and expressed the club’s appreciation for her presentation.
Zone councillor Beryl Pike officiated the presentation of service pins to members Jean Smallpiece (30 years), Yvonne Hardie (10 years), Shail Mitchell (10 years) and Delsia Ward (10 years).
Joan Brown was another recipient, however, was unable to attend the meeting.
Jean Smallpiece was invited to cut the club’s birthday cake with zone councillor Beryl Pike and club president Pat Jones.
Beryl Pike briefly addressed the meeting with details about the national convention, this year being held in Wollongong in September 11-13. Registrations for convention close August 31.
Members are invited to take part in “A Walk With a View” – a national VIEW promotion.
This will be a combined event between Gunnedah Evening and Gunnedah Day VIEW clubs – on Saturday, August 22 at 9.15am at the Gunnedah Services and Bowling Club.
The event is being held to promote awareness of VIEW – Voice Interests and Education of Women.
Women within the organisation work to support The Smith Family and its work with and assistance of disadvantaged young Australians.
