Firefighters were called to the older style fibro home, on the corner of Henry and Little Barber Streets, just before 12.30pm on Thursday.
Police were already on scene and no one was hurt in the incident.
Two fire crews fought the blaze as smoke billowed from the residence.
Electricity wires at the front of the building were sparking as firefighters hosed the roof space and Essential Energy was called to cut the power.
Fire and Rescue NSW commander Rod Byrnes said it was a difficult fire to fight.
“The fire moved up into the ceiling space, making it very difficult to fight,” he said.
“After the power was cut we were able to fight the fire internally and get it under control fairly quickly.”
Police said the fire is not suspicious at this stage, however is still under investigation. It is believed to have started from a log fire.
Paramedics were also on scene to assist firefighters with fatigue, while police directed traffic away from the area.
Commander Byrnes applauded his crew for their efforts.
“My crew did a fantastic job getting this fire under control in the early stages and making the area safe,” commander Byrnes said.
Fire crews left the scene at around 2.30pm and the road was open again to traffic.
A Facebook post said donations are being taken for the family at 38 Wandobah Road.
