The Boggabri Drovers Campfire is a finalist in the Festivals and Events under 5000 category.
It has previously won sections in the 2010 and 2013 Inland Tourism Awards and was named a finalist in the 2014 NSW Tourism Awards and the 2014 Inland Tourism Awards.
Drovers Campfire co-ordinator Geoff Eather said the community was pleased to be recognised for their hard work.
“It has become a real community event and there is a lot of work that goes into it so it’s great to be acknowledged for that, it’s a real credit to our community,” Mr Eather said.
“We were hopeful and half planning our trip to Broken Hill for the awards night so it’s just lovely.”
The awards night will be held in Broken Hill on Saturday, July 25 and seven Boggabri locals will be in attendance.
“I’m sure there will be some tough competition, but we just have to wait and see what happens,” Mr Eather said.
“We are just very pleased to make the finals.”
Mr Eather thanked Narrabri Shire Tourism manager Penny Jobling for her work towards the event and preparing the nomination.
Since the inaugural event in 2006, the campfire has grown from 29 vehicles and caravans, 12 tents and 57 people, to 502 vehicles and 1255 people in 2014.
Mr Eather said numbers were down at this year’s campfire due to storms across NSW, but said next year’s event was shaping up to be “a big one”, with more registrations from caravanners than ever before.
Other finalists from the region include Liverpool Plains Visitor Information Centre, Willow Tree, Nundle Woollen Mill and Tamworth Country Music Festival.
