I would like to express my disgust at the behaviour of a fellow passenger on the town bus service last Friday.
As usual some of the students from GS Kidd School, along with accompanying teachers got onto the bus.
This woman then proceeded to complain about the students being there.
As one of the teachers stated, “It’s a community bus” , her reply was “you’ve got your own money, get your own bus”.
The students travel on the bus as a vital part of their social skills progam.
Being the mother of a former student I know exactly how important things like these are to all the students.
Having the types of disabilities that the students do – either physical or, intellectual – isn’t a choice for them, it’s there from birth.
But being intolerant and ignorant is a choice that sadly some people like this woman make.
I’ve spoken to several of the other people that were on the bus that morning and they were as disgusted as I was by her behaviour.
I am letting the wonderful students, teachers and parents of the GS Kidd School family know that you have the support of the majority of people in the Gunnedah community.
The saying is “everyone has the right to opinion”, I was angered by the fact that this woman was so hateful to a group of kids.
This person should remember that “the wheels on the bus go round and round” – for everyone.
