Gunnedah Shire mayor Owen Hasler said today the council already met all the indicators for a “fit” council under the NSW government’s local government reform criteria.
“Of course, we will not rest at this and will strive for even more improvements,” Cr Hasler said.
“We will continue to build strong relationships with our neighbouring councils.
“We will continue to represent Gunnedah’s interests by actively being involved in the Namoi Regional Organisation of Councils and shaping local government through the Joint Organisation Pilot.”
Cr Hasler was commenting as the council released its 2015-16 Operational Plan for public comment.
The document is intended to provide a framework for council’s delivery of services in the next financial year.
Council general manager Eric Groth said he was “very confident” in the plans.
“The consistent hard work of our staff, continuous improvement of our systems and governance, and commitment to cost reduction by management through greater efficiency has enabled council to address considerable challenges in recent years,” Mr Groth said.
“This has been achieved whilst still ensuring council’s continued financial sustainability and the ability to plan for growth and a positive future for our community.
“I am very confident that the plans presented for consideration are built on solid policy, economic rationalism and sustainable planning principles that will prove to be of great benefit to the Gunnedah Shire community in the next year and beyond.”
The plan is available on www.infogunnedah.com.au or at council centres. Feedback must be received by Friday, June 18.
