Manager community relations northern, David Crough, said the staged improvement works would be carried out along a section of Pullaming Road, near Breeza.
“Crews will replace 41 power poles and more than nine kilometres of ageing powerline with higher-capacity aluminium cable which is more resistant to weathering,” Mr Crough said.
A number of localised power supply interruptions will be necessary throughout the course of the project to allow Essential Energy crews to safely work on the power network.
Affected households and businesses will be notified in advance.
“To ensure these works are completed as quickly as possible, additional crews and equipment from Tamworth, Quirindi and Barraba will be brought in to assist local Gunnedah teams,” Mr Crough said.
“Parts of the upgrade will also be undertaken while the powerline is still energised using ‘live line’ techniques to minimise the disruption for local residents.”
Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by the end of June.
“We appreciate the planned power supply interruptions may be inconvenient for some customers and thank them for their patience while we work to improve the power network around the Breeza area,” Mr Crough said.
